Truss says mid north coast RDA projects will be considered based on merits. The Minister for Regional Development has not completely ruled out funding for the Taree transport hub. The Northern Gateway project won funding from Regional Development Australia (RDA) in the last months of the Labor government. Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss said all uncontracted RDA commitments made by the previous government will be assessed case by case.
“We’ll be honouring all contracted projects but there are something like $400 million or $ 500 million dollars worth of projects which are uncontracted,” he said. “Now we’ll have to look at each of those each on its merits.
“We’ll be honouring all of our own election promises but we don’t feel a particular obligation to honour Labor’s election promises and so we will assess what Labor has promised on it’s merits.”
Mr Truss said the Abbott government is committed to regional development.
