Regions located near large Australian capital cities, who have natural or man-made points of interest have promoted themselves as driving destinations. So what makes a great driving destination. With the increase petrol prices and changing families structures how do you promote your region as a driving destination. Marketing the concept of ‘bringing back the great family road trip’ as a concept has to deal with rising petrol prices, short attention span of teenagers, cheap overseas travel and changing family habits. Limestone Coast and the Wollongong region are both marketing themselves as drive destinations. What other examples are there?
South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) is trying to promote the idea of ‘bringing back the great family road trip’ and encourage touring in the Limestone Coast region. The
Limestone coast is in southeast of South Australia. The region supports farming, wine, forestry and tourism. Towns of the coast include Bordertown, Keith, Millicent, Mount Gambier, Penola, and Naracoorte, the coastal resorts of Beachport, Kingston SE and Robe, and the wine-growing regions of Coonawarra, Padthaway, Wrattonbully and Mount Benson.

Wollongong has the Grand Pacific Drive which encompasses some of the most spectacular coastline in New South Wales (NSW). Close to Sydney at the entrance of the Royal
National Park (world’s second oldest), the 140km drive takes you through coastal rainforests, quaint seaside villages and traverses along the iconic 665 metre Sea Cliff Bridge.
Grand Pacific Drive then makes its way into the bustling city of Wollongong, which is the main ‘hub’ along the drive, offering an abundance of adventure activities, great beaches and shopping, fantastic local restaurants and cafes, golf courses, art galleries and more. You can explore activities and attractions and places to eat while in Wollongong on this website.
From Wollongong continue south along Grand Pacific Drive into the beautiful coastal towns of Shellharbour and Kiama, with the drive ending in the spectacular Shoalhaven region.
